Rider Manual
LA REINE Badische Weinstrasse 2025

Access to finish area
The finish and the Finisher Party are located on the Schlossberg in Freiburg. The finish area is just a few steps from the city centre (Schwabentor). However, this path cannot be ridden by bike (stairs). You will therefore need shoes that allow you to safely cover this short distance on foot.

Either complete the entire event in suitable shoes (e.g. gravel shoes), or include an extra pair of appropriate shoes with your luggage service bag (see separate section in the handbook) for changing after the ride.

Accompanying persons Aperitif & Finisherparty
Accompanying persons:
  • Tickets for the Aperitif: available at the organiser’s desk on site.
  • Finisher Party: venue is public; accompanying persons can buy their own food and drinks.
Age requirement
Participation is open to women aged 18 and above. Younger participants may join only upon request and must be accompanied by their mother or an adult sister.
Cabins & Showers
Not available (due to low demand at other LA REINE events).
Change of route
When registering, you will be asked to choose one of the two routes. This helps us plan the feed stations with as little food waste as possible.

However, your choice is not binding. You can still decide during the ride whether you want to complete the 100 km Medio Fondo or the longer 170 km Gran Fondo – depending on your form on the day, weather conditions, etc.

This also applies to the race category: the timing system will automatically detect which route you actually rode.

⚠️ Gran Fondo caution: If you do not reach the the 3rd feed station in Bad Krozingen by 13:30 at the latest, you will most likely not be able to complete the long route ahead of the broom wagon. In that case, you will suddenly find yourself with no signage and no feed stations anymore. We therefore strongly recommend switching to our emergency shortcut back - gpx to be downloaded here.

Difficulty rating of routes
The Gran Fondo course (170 km with 2,000+ m of climbing) is very demanding – comparable to a tough stage of the Tour de France Femmes. Don’t be misled by the numbers alone: finishing requires excellent fitness, a solid average speed, and confident bike-handling skills.

The Medio Fondo course is less challenging, but still no “coffee ride.” 100 km is always an achievement. However, thanks to the relatively moderate amount of climbing, the Medio Fondo is manageable even for beginners with a good fitness level – just take your time and enjoy the ride.

Eligible bikes
Permitted bikes are road bikes and gravel bikes (with drop handlebars).

For non-timed participation, e-assist is also allowed – but strictly limited to e-road bikes and e-gravel bikes (no e-mountain bikes, e-touring bikes, or similar).

Finish & Finisher Party
Schlossberg Freiburg, Wasserplatz

Finisher Party
The Finisher Party with awards ceremony takes place on Saturday after the races. Enjoy complimentary hot food (voucher), drinks (voucher), a DJ, and a great party atmosphere.

Accompanying persons are welcome to join and can purchase their own food and drinks.

The Finisher Party will be held at the Schlossberg in Freiburg, Google-Map-position: Wasserreservoir/Kastaniengarten

At the finish/finisher party, we’ll have a bike park area where you can leave your bikes. The area will be fenced off, and we’ll have someone keeping an eye on the entrances and exits. Please note, though, that parking your bike is at your own risk – we can’t take responsibility for any bikes left there.

Get-together on Friday
The Friday evening Aperitif & Get-Together is one of the absolute highlights of LA REINE! Enjoy drinks, tasty snacks, a live DJ, and great vibes – the perfect chance to meet fellow riders, share stories, and create new friendships.

📍 Join us from 18:30 to 19:30 at our partner hotel **Stadt Freiburg **sup, Breisacherstrasse 84b, Freiburg.

💶 Participation fee: EUR 25 (available as an add-on during event registration).

Late registration (if you are already registered for LA REINE but not yet for the Get-Together) is possible here
GPX-files
Approximately 2–3 weeks before the event, the GPX files for both routes will be published on the website.
They cannot be made available earlier, as last-minute changes (e.g. due to roadworks) may still occur.

Group discount
Groups/Teams of 10 or more members receive the following discount:

Group size:

  • 10–19 = 10%
  • 20–29 = 20%
  • 30+ = 30%

Hazard points on the course
⚠️ Safety Notice – Please Read Carefully

  • No hazard markings: Junctions, gravel, potholes, dirt, roadworks, etc. are not marked.

  • Hazards may appear suddenly, e.g. behind blind corners.
  • Participants are fully responsible for staying alert and adjusting speed at all times.
  • Open roads: The course is not closed to traffic – not even on timed segments.
  • Be prepared to encounter other road users at any moment – including large tractors or harvesters on fast descents on narrow mountain roads.
Injuries / Medical support
There is no official medical service provided as part of the event.

In case of an emergency, please be sure to call the official emergency number 112

All feed stations, our three service vehicles, and the broom wagon are equipped with a small first aid kit (basic bandages, disinfectant) for participants to treat minor injuries themselves.
Luggage service
All participants will receive an attractive bag offered by the City of Freiburg at race number pick-up. You may fill this bag as you wish (e.g. regular shoes for the Finisher Party, change of clothes, etc.) and hand it in at the start area to the organiser’s team.

Please attach the label with your race number to the bag. This label is included with your race number (tear-off tag on the back number).
The bag will then be transported to the finish area, where participants can collect it again.

By registering, all participants acknowledge and agree that the organiser may use photos in which they appear for communication and promotional purposes, as outlined in the terms and conditions of participation.

Preparation / Training
Neither route is a “coffee ride” – both require proper preparation in terms of fitness, riding skills, and equipment.

You can find a training plan “Ready for LA REINE in 12 Weeks” here

Price giving ceremony
The ceremony will take place as part of the Finisher Party on Saturday.
In both categories, the top ten riders will be honoured with a trophy.

Race classification
The ranking is based on the recorded times in the timed sectors. The times of the 3 timed sections (Medio Fondo) or 6 timed sections (Gran Fondo) are added together.

Timing starts automatically as you ride through the start of each sector – there is no need to stop.

There will be one ranking each for the Medio Fondo (100 km) and the Gran Fondo (170 km) routes (no additional age group or category classifications).

The results will be published after the course is closed.

The total riding time from start to finish is neither measured nor counted – which means you can fully enjoy the feed stations, the scenery, and the atmosphere outside the timed sectors.

The top 10 riders in each ranking will receive a trophy. Trophies will be awarded personally at the awards ceremony. Trophies will not be sent by post.
Race number
You can find your personal start number on the start list on our website [here]. Please remember it for race number pick-up.

At the distribution, start kits are sorted by number, not alphabetically by name. Anyone who does not know their number will be sent back to check the posted list and will have to queue again afterwards.

Refund of registration fee
Registration for LA REINE is binding. The participation fee will under no circumstances be refunded – not even with a medical certificate or similar. Participation is personal and non-transferable.

For cancellations submitted by email at least 30 days before the event:
- we issue a voucher for the participation fee actually paid (excluding system fees), redeemable for any of our other events or for the following year.
- in the case of cancellation due to documented pregnancy, this voucher is valid for 3 years.

Cancellations received after this deadline will not be considered or answered.

Ride schedule

Routes
La Reine offers two routes:
Gran Fondo | 170km / 2000+ hm
Medio Fondo | 100 km / 1200 hm

Service cars
On the course, three neutral service vehicles will be in operation to assist participants with technical problems. This is an exceptional service offered by LA REINE, as such support is not usually provided at road cycling events.

The service vehicles can be requested by phone through the course manager: 📞 tba. Please note that due to the wide range of participant speeds and the long course, waiting times may be significant.

The service itself is free of charge. However, any spare parts must be paid for directly on site (cash only or …).

Private support vehicles for individual participants are strictly prohibited on the course.
Shoes
At some of the food & refreshment stations – and especially in the finish area (including the Finisher Party) – the ground is gravel. We therefore recommend cycling shoes that are comfortable to walk in on uneven surfaces (e.g. gravel shoes).

From the finish area to downtown Freiburg it’s just a short walk. However, the path is not rideable by bike (stairs). You will therefore need shoes in which you can walk safely while pushing your bike.

We provide a luggage service (see separate section in the handbook), which will transport a filled bag for you from the start to the finish. If you are riding in pure road cycling shoes, please make sure to include an extra pair of suitable shoes in your luggage.
Signposting
The routes are fully signposted. The signage is clear and easy to follow, but it is not designed for professional race speeds.

As a general rule: if there is no sign, continue straight ahead!

Start list
Our participant list is automatically updated with every new registration.
You can find it here.

Toilets
Toilets are available at the start, at every feed station, and at the finish.
Traffic
The routes run mostly on small roads with very little traffic.

However, the roads are not closed, and there are also a few short connecting sections on larger roads. Participants must follow the traffic rules at all times – even in the timed segments.

Other road users can appear anywhere and at any time, including large agricultural vehicles. Please adjust your riding style accordingly.

Waste
All waste – including small items such as gel wrappers – must be carried by each participant to the next waste disposal point. Waste bags will be available at the feed stations. Any improper disposal may result in immediate exclusion from the event.
Weather conditions
The event will take place in all weather conditions (including rain, snowfall, etc.).

Please make sure to equip yourself with appropriate clothing.

Downhill sections on small vineyard roads, which are often somewhat dirty, can be especially challenging in wet conditions (braking & risk of slipping). Please also prepare for these situations in your training for LA REINE.
Withdrawal / Return transport
Anyone who decides to abandon the race – for whatever reason (fatigue, injury, mechanical issue, etc.) – is responsible for arranging their own return (public transport, taxi, contacting family/friends, etc.).

In some cases, one of our service vehicles or the broom wagon may offer a ride. However:
a) this cannot be guaranteed, and
b) the return will be very slow (potentially several hours), as both service and broom wagons will continue to perform their regular duties.

The organiser will under no circumstances arrange individual transportation back for a participant.
